Lipiodolⓡ , lipid soluble contrast media, was applied to 59 patients, who was clinically suspected to have hepatic tumor, in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Seoul National University Hospital. The results of the clinical use of Lipiodolⓡ were as follow : 1. The clinical diagnosis was hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in 50 cases, cavernous hemanigioma in 4 cases, metastasis in one case and others in 4 cases. 2. After hepatic arteriograhy, Lipiodol only was injected in 28 cases, mixture of Lipiogol and Mitomycin was injected in 22 cases and transcatheter arterial embolizaion was performed additionally after injection of Lipiodol and mitomycin in 9 cases. 3. Among the 50 cases of HCC , Lipiodol was accumulaed in the lesion in 49 cases. However, similar accumulation of Lipiodol occured in a metastatic cancer and cavernous hemangiomas. 4. Plainradiographic patterns of Lipiodol accumulation could be divided into fine granular type, nodular type and linear or branching type. he linear or branching pattern disappeared in follow-up radiography after one week . 5. As a minor complication after Lipiodol lnjection , GOT& GPT wre tansiently elevated in 30 cases and normalized in a week. Abdominal pain and fever developed but subsided in a week too. 6. When an appropriate lipid-soluble chemotherapeutic agent or radioisotope is applied to this phenomenon in which Lipiodol is selectively accumulated in hepatic tumor , the diagnostic and therapeutic values will be more enhanced.
