부양 전 부부관계의 질과 결혼기간이 치매노인 부양자의 스트레스 평가, 복지감, 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 = The Impact of Prior Relationship and Marriage Duration on Stress Appraisals, Well-being, and Life Quality for Spousal aregivers of Dementia Sufferers

The current study examined how marital quality prior to the onset of dementia and marriage duration influenced caregivers' stress appraisals, well-being, and life quality. In a sample of 88 spousal caregivers, multiple regression analyses showed that the level of marital quality prior to the onset of dementia was a predictor of caregivers' stress appraisals. Spousal caregivers, specifically, who reported higher levels of marital quality prior to the onset of dementia, were likely to show higher levels of role captivity. On the other hand, duration of marriage did not effect on caregivers' role captivity. Finally, the level of marital quality prior to the onset of dementia was a moderator for the relationship between caregiving stressors and caregiving outcomes(i.e. caregivers' stress appraisals, well-being, and life quality). The findings of this study suggest that interventions for helping spouses to provide care to the demented elderly at home must consider circumstances faced by caregiving spouses such as marital quality prior to the onset of dementia.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 치매노인을 부양하는 배우자 부양자를 대상으로 부양 전 부부관계의 질과 결혼기간이 배우자 부양자의 부양결과 변수에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 서울특별시와 대구광역시에 거주하고 있는 배우자 부양자 88명을 대상으로 부양 전 부부관계의 질과 결혼기간이 스트레스 평가(역할구속감), 복지감(우울, 분노), 삶의 질에 미치는 영향력을 중다회귀 모형을 사용하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부양 전 부부관계의 질은 배우자 부양자의 스트레스 평가에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 주었다. 즉 부양 전 부부관계의 질이 높을수록 배우자 부양자의 역할구속감도 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 결혼기간은 배우자 부양자의 스트레스 평가, 복지감, 삶의 질에 아무런 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 부양 전 부부관계의 질은 치매노인 부양에 수반되는 스트레스원과 부양자의 스트레스 평가, 복지감, 삶의 질 사이에 통계적으로 유의미한 중재변수로 나타났다. 따라서 배우자 부양자를 위한 지지 프로그램 개발을 위해서는 배우자 부양자가 부부관계 속에서 치매노인 부양자로서의 역할을 수행하고 있다는 점을 고려해야 할 것이다.
