在日二世として済州4・3を書くということ - 金蒼生『風の声』を中心として - = Writing about the Jeju 4.3 incident, as a second-generation Zainichi -Focusing on "Voice of the Wind” by Kim Chang-saeng -

This article examines the significance of the literary work of Kim Chang-saeng, a second-generation Korean writer in Japan, in writing about the Jeju 4.3 Incident, which she did not experience, and how her life is reflected in her work.
Since she was young, Kim Chang-saeng has had a strong interest in the Jeju 4.3 Incident and has relived it through historical books and novels. For her, Jeju 4.3 Incident was not only an event that happened in her parents' hometown, but also a history that loomed over her as a threat in the Japanese society where she lived.
The main character of "The Voice of the Wind," written by her, stowed away to Osaka at the time of the Jeju 4.3 Incident, lived a tumultuous life, but in her later years returned to her home island, Jeju, where her parents were buried. Kim also said, "It was my “Han (an emotion that she has been holding back and stifling: deep resentment, sorrow, or regret)” that I could not choose where I was born. I want to choose my own place to die," and in 2010, she moved to Jeju Island to fulfill her wish. The fact that she spent her later years living on Jeju Island does not mean that she is seeking a life of ease. Since moving to Jeju, she has been actively involved in the Jeju 4.3 pilgrimage, participating in various memorial services and "Gut" (shaman's ritual for repose of souls) " as long as time allows, actively listening to the voices of the victims, and being close to the grief of the bereaved families.
The fact that she writes about the Jeju 4.3 Incident also leads to a kind of "Gut" . Her own Han, the Han of the victims, and the Han of the first-generation Zainichi who, like her parents, ended their lives without ever stepping on the soil of their homeland again. By entrusting such the resentment to the main character, Seola, it ensures to be resolved. This is exactly the significance of Kim Chang-saeng's literary work of writing the Jeju 4.3 Incident.
