기업전략차원에서의 특허활용과 기술혁신 협력 간 관계에 관한 연구 = The Relationship Between Patent Utilization and Cooperation for Technological Innovation: Evidence from Korean Manufacturing Firms

This paper tries to analyze the relationship between patentutilization and cooperation with various partners, considering that themeaning and utilization of patent have been widened with the trend ofcomplexity of technological innovation and open innovations. Weanalyze whether the relationship is complementary or not, how therelationship varies according to different types of cooperative partners,utilizing the result of Korean innovation survey. As a result, our majorfindings are as follows. Even though general level does not show anysignificance, some relationship has complementarity in the case ofhorizontal cooperation, cooperation with specialized institutions, andcooperation with affiliated companies. This means that patent can beutilized as strategic asset to enhance technological cooperation as wellas protecting technology from competitors.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 전략적인 특허활용과 개방형 혁신이 확산되는 맥락에서 기업전략차원에서의 특허활용과 기술혁신 협력 간 관계를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있으며, 이를 통해 기업의 기술혁신 협력에서 특허활용이 갖는 의미를 분명히 하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 제조업 기업을 대상으로 한국과학기술정책연구원이 수행한 한국기술혁신조사(Korean Innovation survey)의 결과를 이용하여 실증적인 분석을시도하였다. 분석결과, 특허의 활용은 기업의 협력 중에서 수평적 협력, 전문기관협력 및 계열사 협력을 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 특허가 단지 경쟁기업을 배제하여 자신의 혁신을 보호하고 전유하려는 수단으로뿐 아니라, 해당기업이 경쟁기업을 포함한 외부기관과의 기술혁신협력을 촉진하고 영향을 미치는전략적 수단으로 활용되고 있음을 의미하며, 혁신기업은 특허 활용이 부여하는 다양한 편익을 활용하기 위해서 특허경영에서 자사의 기술 보호와 더불어 협력을 통한 체계적인 활용을 시도해야 하며 관련 역량을 제고해야 한다는 점을 시사한다.
