      The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of supplemental aquatic-complex exercise (ACE) on the strength/endurance and bone mineral density (BMD) in aerobically exercised older women. There were 2 groups: ACE group (n=17, 73.72±3.02 yrs) and aerobic exercise (AE) group (n=16, 72.50±2.87 yrs), who had been participating in regular exercise for the preceding 3 months. Muscular strength, endurance, and BMD were also evaluated at before and after 12-week program. For data analysis, mean and standard deviation scores were calculated, and repeated two-way ANOVAs were used. The results of the study: First, after 12 weeks exercise, ACE group was better than AE group on isokinetic strength/endurance of knee joint muscles, and BMD of lumbar spine and femur trochanter. Second, however AE group did not show any improvement in muscular strength/endurance, and BMD. Therefore, this study implies that ACE with considerations of the exercise resistance intensity and environment may be of effective to muscular strength/endurance and BMD in the postmenopausal and elderly women.
