연구개발투자의 경제성장과 고용효과에 관한 실증연구 -OECD 국가를 중심으로- = The Impact of R&D Investment on Economic Growth and Employment

R&D has been accepted as an important factor of sustainable economic growth. Korea`s R&D ratio to GDP reached at 4.15% in 2013 and was ranked as first country in R&D intensity over OECD countries. Although the government tries to improve efficiency and contributes to grappling with economic growth and an increase in employment through R&D investment, recent high unemployment and sluggish economic growth rate brings up skeptical opinions about the role of R&D in the economy. The impacts of R&D investments on GDP growth and job creation are analyzed using the data set of OECD countries between the period of 1980-2012. We find that the R&D investment has had a positive effect on GDP growth and employment. Moreover, there are some other long-term mechanisms to flourish the economy and to promote increase in employment by using technological innovation, such as dissemination of the latest cutting-edge technology.
