This study intends to examine the differences in the level of satisfaction toward one's own body, desire, sense of value on clothing, makeup behaviors according to the demographic characteristics of grown up women, to clarify the relation between the level of satisfaction toward one's own body, desire and sense of value on clothing and the makeup behaviors and to investigate the influence of such variables on the makeup behaviors and the influence of the makeup behaviors on the effect of psychological expectation after putting on the makeup. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed via factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, Scheff?'s multiple range, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The result is summarized as follows.
The characteristics of the level of satisfaction toward one's own body, desire, sense of value on clothing according to the demographic characteristics of grown up women showed significant differences partially. In the relation among the makeup behaviors, the level of satisfaction on one's own body and the psychological characteristics, both the level of satisfaction and the basic desire resulted a directly proportional correlation with the makeup behavior, however, the desire showed different results depending on the makeup behavior; in the instrumental aspect, physiological desire and desires for security, sense of belonging and being acknowledged did not have any relation and in behaviors for fashion, inclination toward others and showing off, the physiological desire did not show any relations. Also, in the relation between the sense of value and the makeup behaviors, the makeup behavior was inversely proportional to the theoretical, economical, social, sensible and religious sense of value among all the variables of makeup behaviors but was directly proportional to the aesthetic, political and inquisitive sense of value. The cause of influence on the makeup behavior can be described into 4 variables that are included in the decision making process of makeup behavior, in other words, the influence of demographical characteristic, the level of satisfaction on one's own body, basic desire and the sense of value on clothing. A course analysis verified 6 types of influence on the makeup behaviors and found that the parameters like basic desire or the sense of value on clothing had a significant influence on the makeup behavior and also such variables were influenced by the demographic characteristic and the level of satisfaction on one's own body. Also, among the demographic characteristics, the marriage status, the occupation status and the level of media contact had a direct influence on specific makeup behavior, however the level of satisfaction on one's own body did not have a direct influence on any subordinate variables of makeup behaviors, but had indirect influence having the basic desire as a parameter or had no influence having the sense of value on clothing as a parameter.
