한국사회의 연령주의(Ageism)와 노인문제 = Ageism and Ageing in Contemporary Korean Society

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국사회의 노인문제는 이제 우리사회가 당면하게 될 중요한 사회문제 중의 하나로 논의되고 있다. 사실, 노인문제는 여러 가지의 관점에서 이해 될 수가 있다. 본 논문은 한국사회의 노인문제의 성격을 연령주의적 관점에서 재조명하기 위한 이론적인 틀을 모색하려 하였다. 그 이유는 한국사회의 노인문제는 기본적으로 연령주의를 떠나서는 본질적인 이해와 해결의 바탕이 마련되기 어렵다는 판단이 내려지기 때문이다. 본 논문에서 제시한 "개별화-제도화의 연속선"의 모델을 통해서 한국사회의 연령주의가 우리의 노인문제와 어떻게 연관되어 있으며, 아울러 이러한 틀을 바탕으로 오늘날 한국사회가 당면하고 있는 노인문제를 어떻게 풀어 나가야 할지에 대한 하나의 시사점을 찾아 보고져 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The problems of ageing can be viewed from a number of perspectives. The present study focuses on the Korean ageism, which is regarded to be a major factor contributing to the current issues on the elderly life presently in Korean society. Presently, the traditional ageism of Korea is in the process of transition from an institution "for the aged" toward a newly emerging institution "against the aged". This process is explained by a proposed analytic theoretical framework. "individualization-institutionalization continuum". which is basically derived from the theory of exchange resource. Leaving aside the empirical analysis based on this model, the focus of attention of the present paper is given to the presentation of the theoretical relevancy of this model to the problems of the Korean elderly. Utilizing this framework, it analyzes theoretically the causes and consequences of the Korean ageism and proposes a policy implication for the ageing problems of Korean society.
