The purpose of this study is to outline a logic of curricular construction for the authentic geography education in elementary schools. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: (1) One major aim of elementary geography education can be found in helping children appreciate the geographical dimension of their surroundings. It is not to learn geography as a mere school subject, but to live authentically the inquiry of geographic issues of their surroundings. Geographic inquiry may have to be meaningful for children - in itself, not for something else. It is to initiate children into the geographic inquiry as one of the major areas of life. (2) Learning of geography would then have to be problemcentered and activity-centered. (3) Curriculum development would have to be of an emergent nature, with rich learning materials ready at any time.
