Levinas의 “타자철학” 관점에서 본 교육적 관계맺음의 의미 = 영화 <Freedom Writers>에 나타난 교사와 학생 관계를 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The relationship between teacher and student affects the overall quality of school education. Especially the teacher and student relationship is defined by how a teacher reflects on the student. This thesis focuses on the desirable teacher’s attitude toward the student based on the philosophy of the Other of Levinas. Levinas’s mature thought evinces two types of relationships with the Other: one stems from Totality and from Infinity stems the Other. And in this thesis, the movie Freedom Writers based on a true story is analyzed to review how the philosophy of Levinas can be applied to specific educational cases. Two aspects of the teacher and student relationship are found in this movie. According to the analysis of the movie, the teacher should avoid an understanding of the student based on reason and instead cultivate one through responsibility for the Other’s Visage and Saying. The teacher needs to appreciate the uniqueness of each student as a human being and form a relationship with the student – not with a student as an alter ego of the teacher himself or herself but with a student as the absolute other.
