국문 초록 (Abstract)

중국 불교음악은 오랜 역사와 전통을 지닌 예술 양식으로, 그 내부에는 불교의 교리와 문화적 가치가 깊이 뿌리내리고 있다. 신중국 시기 이후, 이와 같은 전통적인 불교음악은 현대 음악과의 융합을 통해 새로운 형태로 재탄생하고 있다. 특히 독경 음악과 사찰 기악의 활용은 중국 불교음악이 현대적 맥락에서 대중화되는 방식을 잘 보여주는 사례로 주목받고 있다.
중국에서 불교는 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 종교 중 하나로, 정치, 철학, 문학, 예술 등 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 깊은 영향을 미쳐왔다. 불교 교리는 마음의 청정, 덕의 축적, 선을 향한 실천 등의 가르침을 중심으로 구성되어 있으며, 이러한 정신적 요소는 중국인의 일상생활 및 심리적 차원에 깊이 스며들어 있다. 이러한 불교 문화의 정신적 요소는 현대 대중음악 창작에도 적극적으로 활용되고 있으며, 불교의 핵심 용어와 교리를 바탕으로 한 대중음악이 점차적으로 만들어지고 있다.
본 연구는 신중국 시기 이후 중국 불교음악의 대중화 양상을 중심으로, 불교음악의 전통적 요소들이 현대적 맥락에서 어떻게 재해석되고 응용되고 있는지를 심층적으로 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 통해 중국 불교음악이 현대 사회에서 어떻게 새로운 의미를 부여받고 있으며, 어떤 방식으로 대중과 소통하고 있는지를 탐구할 것이다. 본 논문은 중국 불교음악의 대중화 과정을 사회적, 문화적 측면에서 분석하고, 이를 뒷받침하는 구체적인 사례를 제시함으로써 학문적 기여를 이루고자 한다.
이러한 분석은 중국 불교음악의 전통적 가치와 현대적 변용 사이의 상호작용을 조명하는 데 목적이 있다. 또한, 불교음악이 단순히 전통을 계승하는 데 그치지 않고, 현대적 맥락에서 새롭게 해석되고 응용되는 과정을 통해, 중국 사회 내에서의 문화적 정체성과 예술적 융합의 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. 나아가 본 연구는 중국 불교음악이 지닌 현대적 의의와 가치를 재조명함으로써, 동시대 중국 문화와 예술 연구에 중요한 학문적 토대를 제공할 것이다.

Chinese Buddhist music has a long history and tradition, deeply rooted in the doctrines and culture of Buddhism. Since the period of New China, this traditional Buddhist music has been reborn in new forms through its fusion with modern music. In particular, the use of chanting music and temple instrumental music illustrates how Chinese Buddhist music is being popularized in contemporary contexts. Buddhism is one of the most influential religions in China, having a profound impact on various fields, including politics, philosophy, literature, and art. The teachings of Buddhism encompass concepts such as mental purity, accumulating virtue, and striving for goodness, which permeate the daily lives and psychological dimensions of the Chinese people. These spiritual elements of Buddhist culture are also utilized in the creation of popular music, leading to the production of popular songs based on key Buddhist terms.
Therefore, this study aims to examine the aspects of the popularization of Chinese Buddhist music since the period of New China, focusing on how the elements of Buddhist music are reinterpreted and applied in contemporary contexts. Through this analysis, we will explore how Chinese Buddhist music is endowed with new meanings in modern society. This paper seeks to conduct an in-depth analysis of the process of popularization of Chinese Buddhist music from social and cultural perspectives and to provide examples that support these changes, thereby making an academic contribution.
