호주 원주민(Aboriginal) 미술을 활용한 텍스타일 디자인 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인류는 19세기 후까지 그 시대적 환경이나 사상의 영향으로 자연에 충실하면서 자연에 관한 관념을 충실히 표현해 왔다. 그러나 19세기 후반부터 현대에 이르기까지 현대문명의 발달로 인한 자연의 오염, 기계화의 와중에서 기형적으로 변질 되어가는 인간의 사고(思考)를 낳았고, 무엇 보다도 가장 큰 문제는 현대가 인간성을 상실한 시대로 변해가는 것이다.
이와같은 오늘의 상황 속에서 우리 현대인들은 정신적 만족과 원시적 회귀심리가 작용하게 되었고 원시미술이 외부 세계에 알려지게 되면서 시각과 장소를 초월한 디자인을 응용하고 제시함으로써 시각사고(視覺思考)에 혁명적(革命的)인 전환점이 되었으며 전통적인 개념에서 탈피하는데 좋은 자극제가 되었다.
오늘날 패션계에도 산업의 전환은 소비자 형태가 지금까지는 "필수품 만족"이라는 욕망충족의 시대에서 소비자의 감각적 욕망을 충족 시키는 "선택 소유의 시대"로 전환되어 가고 있다. 이것은 정신적 풍요가치를 중시하고 다양화, 개성화의 욕구가 높아지면서 차별화된 삶과 창조적 예술가치를 지닌 삶을 지향하게 되므로 의복에 있어서도 인식의 큰 변화를 가져왔다.
이 같은 현상은 텍스타일 디자인에 대한 디자인의 수요를 급격히 증가시켰고 더욱 차별화된 디자인을 요구하게 되었다. 이러한 가치의식이 복식에 원주민 미술을 도입하게 하는 계기를 마련하고 새로운 디자인을 개발하게 되었다.
이러한 관점에서 물질문명의 사회라는 배경 안에서 세계에서 가장 오래된 현존하는 원주민임에도 불구하고 외부세계에 많이 알려지지 않은 호주 원주민 미술의 생명력 있고 순수한 원시미술의 비젼을 텍스타일 디자인에 표현하여 새로운 영역의 범위를 넓히고 현대감각에 맞는 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하는데 중점을 두었다.
본 연구의 방법은 문헌자료를 통하여 첫째 원시미술의 개념과 시대적 특성을 알아본 뒤 두 번째로 호주 원주민의 역사와 호주 원주민 미술의 의미, 표현 고찰을 통해 얻어진 연구자의 영감을 통해 작품을 제작하였다.
작품은 총 10점으로 5점은 Textile CAD를 통해 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하였고 5점은 실크(Silk)와 마(痲)에 공예염을 응용하여 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하였다.
연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 원시미술은 대부분이 주술적인 목적으로 이루어졌으며 문화사와 민족의 역사로 이루어진 문화의 일부분이고 상징성과 의미를 갖게되었다.
둘째, 호주 원주민의 문화 및 사회의 연속성은 그들의 세대와 세대를 통해 전해지고 있으며 현대문명 속에 살아가는 현대인에게 정신적 풍요와 시각사고를 할 수 있는 전환점을 일으켜 준다는 것을 알 수 있다.
셋째, 호주 원주민 미술의 표현 방법은 상징성, 단순화, X-선도화, 모래 페인팅등의 표현 방법을 가지고 있다. 이러한 호주 원주민 미술의 다양한 표현 방법과 모티브, 색상이 현대 텍스타일 디자인 경향과 잘 어울러짐을 알 수 있다.
넷째, 작품제작에 있어서 호주 원주민 미술 작가의 작품들에 많이 사용하고 있는 모티브, 색채, 기법을 텍스타일 디자인에 활용함으로써 텍스타일 디자인 표현 방법의 영역을 확대시킬 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Human being had expressed honestly the concept on nature influenced by the environment and thought of the time until late 19th century. But from late 19th century until now, the development of modern civilization gave birth to abnormally deteriorated thoughts of human beings in the course of contamination of nature and mechanization, and above all, and the idea that modern times is an age of lost humanity is regarded as the most severe problem.
In these circumstances like today, modern men seek spirithal satisfaction and regressive mentality to primitivism, and as primitive arts became known to the external world, it proposed to apply a design beyond vision and place, which built up a revolutionary landmark to visual thought and stimulated to escape the traditional concept.
Today's fashion industry focuses on the value of spiritual abundance, and a need for diversity and individualization is increased to cause a differentiated life and a design endowed with a creative artistic value.
Textile becomes a center of fashion industry to raise the added value of design, to increase the needs for design rapidly, and to require more differentiated design.
In this respect, the vision of lively and primitive arts of Australian Aboriginal arts which has not been informed to the external world, despite that it is the longest Aboriginal in the world within the context of material civilization-oriented society, were applied to the textile design to extend into a new realm and to develop a textile design well-suited to the modern sense.
This study was produced as a result of the investigator's inspiration acquired from learning history and meaning of Aboriginal art of Australian and analizing its expression after examining the concept of primitive arts and the character of the days through literatures.
The works comprise total 10 articles, among which 5 textile designs were developed through Textile CAD and four through the application of craft dyeing to silk and linen.
The sinthesis of the result of this study,
First, much of primitive arts was done for the purpose of sorcery and became to assume symbolism and meaning as a part of a culture consisted of cultural and ethnic history.
Second, it can be found that the cultural and social continuity of the Aborigine arts was transferred from generation to generation and brought forth a turning point which allows modern men who live in this modernized civilization for spiritual richness and visual thought.
Third, Aborigine arts' method of expression involves symbolism, simplicity, X-ray painting, and sand painting. These various expressional methods, motif, and color of Aborigine arts show that they are well suited to the design trend of modern textile.
Fourth, in producing works, the application of motif, color, and technique frequently found in the works of Aborigine artists to textile design could expand the realm of expressional way in the textile design.
