The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in contents of economics principles textbooks in addition to their format and structures to find their implication to secondary school economic education. After many years of expansion, the growth in the size and contents of economics textbooks has begin to dwindle. Textbooks have become more modernized in terms of size, writing style, focus, color and their contents are more reader friendly and basic principles oriented. However, new topics such as game theory, information economics, environmental issues and international economic issues are emerging in the principles textbooks. Three bestselling textbooks in Korea also have these features in common. We suggest secondary school economics textbooks should follow these trends.
