The purpose of this study is to organize the list of expression patterns in
Korean language education and to describe the contents of grammar education
focusing on Korean the auxiliary predicate ‘boda’ which is used in various
patterns. In order to achieve this, discussions were focused on the three
following specific goals: First, to organize the criteria and plan to select the
expression patterns are set by considering the existing relative studies.
Second, Korean the auxiliary predicate ‘boda’ expression patterns able to be
dealt with as the differential grammatical features are selected by applying
these criteria and plan. Third, concerning the selected expression patterns, to
describe contents of grammar which includes the morpho‧syntactic characteris
-tics, meaning, and discourse function are arranged.
First, chapter 1 explains the purpose, necessity, methods and procedures of
this study. Also, investigating the precedent studies, on the auxiliary predicate
focusing on ‘boda,’ the direction of this study is investigated.
In chapter 2, the theoretical background of this study was looked into, and
base on these a criteria and plan for organizing expression patterns of
auxiliary predicate ‘boda’ were introduced. In particular, it is confirmed from
the preceding studies that concepts and features of the auxiliary predicate
‘boda’ is formed differently depending on the combined connective markers. It
was clarified that by the context the form of an individual construction is
selected and there are also various meanings in that. In addition, it is found
that expression patterns are related to not only complexity but also syntactic
structure that can make a sentence. Also it works as a productive
communication unit of discourse which has certain meaning and function in
context and situation. Furthermore, the criteria and method for selecting
organized expression pattern were presented.
Chapter 3 analyses selected expression patterns of the auxiliary predicate
‘boda’ depending on Korean dictionaries and textbooks used for education. As
a result, the number of types and forms of expression patterns of the
auxiliary predicate ‘boda’ that are covered in Korean learning dictionaries and
textbooks are different and not properly organized. So, I have reviewed and
organized the existing items. Based on this need, chapter 4 examines the
validity of 36 items extracted from dictionaries and textbooks that was
categorized into a basic pattern, a modified pattern, and an extended pattern.
As a result, ‘-eo bo(da)’, ‘-eo bwatja’, ‘-ko bo(da)’, ‘-da(ga) bo(da)’, ‘-na/(eu)
nga bo(da)’, ‘-na bwa(ra)', ‘-(eu)lkka bo(da)’ and ‘-(eu)lkka bwa(seo)’ were
finally selected as the individual sentence patterns with distinctive meaning
and functions.
In chapter 5, the morpho‧syntactic constraints is shown in the above chosen
expression patterns of form, meaning, and pragmatical usage. The grammatical
content is described by analyzing the discourse function in the actual situation
and context through the semi-spoken corpus.
Finally chapter 6 summarizes the previous contents of discusses the results,
the significant meaning and limitations of this study.
This study seems to be meaningful in that the Korean auxiliary predicate
‘boda’ expression patterns are organized and the contents of grammar
balanced in form, meaning, and pragmatics in the actual situation and context
are presented.
