This study analyzed the impact of perceived organizational support on the execution DNA and technology commercialization performance of members in start-up companies. Perceived organizational support refers to the degree to which an organization acknowledges and respects the efforts of its members, encompassing their sense of autonomy, participation, and recognition within the organization. This study tested the hypothesis that higher perceived organizational support strengthens members' execution DNA, which in turn enhances technology commercialization performance.
Execution DNA refers to the ability of members to implement creative and innovative ideas. This includes the behavioral competencies necessary for efficiently planning and executing tasks, solving problems, and achieving goals. Technology commercialization involves successfully introducing these innovative ideas to the market, a key performance indicator for start-up companies.
The survey results indicated that higher levels of perceived organizational support are associated with increased feelings of autonomy and participation among members, along with a stronger sense of their efforts being recognized and valued by the organization. This perception boosts members' motivation and strengthens their commitment to realizing innovative ideas. Notably, execution DNA is enhanced when organizational support includes providing necessary resources for task performance, fairly evaluating performance, and recognizing and rewarding members' efforts.
Specifically, the study tested and validated three main hypotheses: First, perceived organizational support positively influences members' execution DNA. Second, execution DNA positively impacts technology commercialization performance. Third, execution DNA mediates the relationship between perceived organizational support and technology commercialization performance. To test these hypotheses, a survey was conducted among members of start-up companies, and the hypotheses were verified using a structural equation model based on the collected data.
The analysis confirmed that higher perceived organizational support strengthens members' execution DNA, which plays a crucial role in improving technology commercialization performance. In organizations with high perceived support, members feel more autonomous and responsible for their duties, which contributes to strengthening their execution DNA. Furthermore, members with enhanced execution DNA are more proactive in realizing creative and innovative ideas, thus contributing to improved technology commercialization performance.
In conclusion, this study empirically demonstrated that perceived organizational support is a significant factor in strengthening members' execution DNA and enhancing technology commercialization performance. These findings offer important strategic implications for start-up companies aiming to boost their performance by fostering organizational support and, consequently, execution DNA.
This study suggests several practical implications. First, start-up companies should cultivate a culture that recognizes and rewards members' efforts. Second, they should support members' autonomy in task execution and provide necessary resources. Third, establishing a fair performance evaluation and compensation system is crucial for motivating members. By implementing these strategies, start-up companies can strengthen members' execution DNA and maximize technology commercialization performance.
Finally, the study discusses its limitations and suggests directions for future research. First, as this study is based on a cross-sectional investigation, it cannot capture changes over time in the relationship between perceived organizational support, execution DNA, and technology commercialization performance. Future studies should consider longitudinal approaches to clarify these relationships further. Second, since this study focused on start-up companies, further research is needed to determine if these findings apply to other types of organizations or industries.
