      Ovariectomy(OVX) 유도 골다공증 모델에서의 흑효모배양 베타글루칸의 뼈 건강 개선 효과 = β-glucan from Aureobasidium pullulans SM-2001 prevents ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis in rats

      Objective : This study was conducted to analyze the protective effect of polycan on osteoporosis in ovariectomy (OVX)-induced rat model.
      Methods : In this study, we investigated the protective effect on estrogen-deficiency-induced osteoporosis. Rats were randomly assigned into SHAM-operated group or OVX subgroups such as OVX, OVX+polycan, and OVX+estradiol (Es). We determined changes in body, uterine, and fat weight. We analyzed by determining the microtrabecular bone structure, and serum biochemical parameters.
      Results : Polycan decreased OVX-induced body and fat weight increase, and increased OVX-decreased uterine weight, bone mineral density. Also, polycan treatment prevented determined by a decrease in the levels of serum bone turnover markers BALP, sRANKL, and TRACP. μ-CT analysis showed that the polycan treatment prevented decreases in bone volume/tissue volume, trabecular number, and trabecular thickness, while also preventing an increase in trabecular separation. polycan could protect OVX-induced loss of bone mass and deterioration in trabecular microarchitecture by suppressing bone turnover.
      Conclusion : Therefore, we suggest that treatment with Polycan might be a potential alternative therapy for treating osteoporosis.
