This study examines how users’ digital competence and AI awareness influence perceptions of generative AI risks, and investigates the moderating roles of sociodemographic characteristics and usage experience. Using data from the 2024 Intelligent Information Society User Panel Survey, moderated mediation analysis was conducted. The results show that digital competence positively affects both AI awareness and risk perceptions, while AI awareness significantly mediates this relationship. In addition, moderating effects varied across age, education, gender, and usage experience, indicating differences in how risk perceptions are formed among user groups. These findings suggest that gaps in risk awareness may persist among certain populations, highlighting the need for tailored AI literacy education and user-specific guidelines rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
