      Russia’s biggest geopolitical advantage is its geographic position between the East and the West. Russia has the potential to become the leading country in terms of railway transportation. But for that it still needs two things: proper reforms and the cooperation with the Far East Countries. The most promising direction is the construction of the Trans-Korean Railway.
      Due to the array of problems in the transport sector a series of reforms are required. A new transport strategy project of 2030 is aimed to deepen the cooperation among the countries. Currently Russian-Asiatic partnership is developing in a rapid pace (UN and US sanctions being one of the reasons). The Trans-Siberian Railway deserves the most attention. The linking on Trans-Siberian and Trans-Korean Railways (the project is mutually- beneficial for all 3 countries) provides the opportunity of constructing the constant direct Busan-London connection. The Trans-Korean Railway project consists of the modernization of Khasan ? Rajin district and the constructing of container terminal in the Rajin port. In 2013 the issue of the South Korean investment into the project of modernization Rajin port has been resolved. It gives Russia the opportunity to carry out several crucial infrastructure development projects in Siberia and the Far East regions. The Trans-Korean Railway project has expanded the number of representatives on the Conference of General Directors of OSJD Railways: the South Korean representative has been invited.
      While carrying out Russian-Korean projects the Russian Federation should take into account the existing geopolitical risks: China has certain political ambitions towards the Korean peninsula. Russia should forge a new behavior strategy to strengthen its influence on North Korea and South Korea without breaking the partnership with China. The linking on Trans-Siberian and Trans-Korean Railways is one of the means of consolidating relations between the countries of the Korean Peninsula. Not only economic affairs depend on the efficiency of transport infrastructure, but also the issues of national security and national integrity.
