This study was performed to offer the fundamental data for preventing and managing the VDT related risk factors to improve workers health and work efficiency in VDT workplace due to analyze the relationship between job stress and work related factors.
The questionnaire survey was carried out on 734 VDT workers from 13th of Jan. to 15th of Feb, in 1997, and the investigated workers were divided into 4 groups as hardware development group, software development group, modeling group and general administration group.
The results were as follows;
1. Most of the investigated workers were belong to mildly stressed group ; 8.3% for normal health group, 74.0% for mildly stressed group and 17.7% for severely stressed group.
2. The stress score distribution by general characteristics showed that the severely stressed group was higher in single than married group and in irregularly excercise group than regularly exercise group.
3. The stress score distribution by work related factors was significantly different only by the VDT working carrier.
4. Mildly stressed group and severely stressed group were significantly higher in the groups working with repeatedness, flatness, unsatisfaction, little self-comtril over their work and lack of chance to promote than the otherwise groups.
5. The correlation between stress score and related variables showed positive correlation with average working hour a day, repeatness and simplicity of work but negative correlation with autonomy to work, the degree of satisfaction with work, wage and promotion and the personel relation with colleagues and superiors.
6. In the stepwise multiple regression analysis with stress score as a dependent variable and influence factors on stress as explanatory vaiables, the simplicity and the autonomy, the degree of satisfaction with work, personal relation wee considered as high degree of expectance factors.
As mentioned above, this study showed that job stress was more largely affected by work related psycological factors than by personel characteristics or VDT working conditions.
