니일 교육사상에 근거한 아동 성교육 방향모색 = A study on the sex education for infant and child based on A.S. Neill's educational thought

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 오늘날 우리 청소년들이 보여주는 왜곡된 성의식과 성적행동들에서 기존의 성교육이 무력함을 인식하면서 올바른 성교육의 방향 모색을 위해 니일의 교용시상과 서머힐에서의 교육실천 내용들을 아동 성교육을 중심으로 검토 분석하였다. 아동을 자기조절 능력을 지닌 자율적이고 자기 실현적인 성향을 가진 긍정적 본성의 존재로 이해하는 니일은 성의 영역에서도 유아 및 아동들의 일체의 성관련 행동들에 대해 성인들이 지극히 수용적이고 자연스러운 태도로 임할 때 건전한 성적 발달이 가능하다고 파악했으며 또한 성교육이 바람직한 인성의 발달이라는 그 본질적 목적을 달성하려면 교육 일반의 현장이 학습자 중심의 열린 환경으로 전환되어야 한다고 보았다. 서머힐의 아동들은 각자의 성적 관심을 최대한 발신하면서 또 열린 교육환경속에서 각자의 창조적 본성을 발휘함으로써 성과 삶에 대해 균형있는 태도와 인성을 발달시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 서머할의 성교육 접근이 우리의 교육현실에 대해 시시하는 방향점을 정리하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is an attempt to analyze A. S. Neill's educational thought concerning sex education for infant and child, and to draw some meaningful suggestions from his thought.
An adequate understanding of Neill's educational thought calls for a discussion of his important views concerning freedom, child's innate character and value of education. Neill believed that child is born wise and good and that if he is given freedom, he can develop himself without any interference from adults. At Summerhill Neill allowed children an almost complete freedom including self government, and this freedom was also a necessary condition to lead children into healthy attitude toward sex. He also gave children the freedom from sexual repression, for he believed that children thus liberated could lead a healthy sexual life in adulthood.
Neill's educational practice at Summerhill suggests to us that sex education should be carried out through the whole curriculum of the school instead of being done only during the programmed sex education class, and that infants be brought up to have natural attitude toward nakedness of the opposite sex, and finally that our children should have outlets for the repressed emotions caused by their boring and overloading school life.
