라캉의 “죽음충동”과 주체의 자유 = The “Death drive” in Jacques Lacan and the Liberty of the subject

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The concept, “Death drive” from Jacques Lacan explains two different sides caused by the Phallus when the subject faces to the Symbolic. Although ‘letter kills (the Real)’ as Lacan said, a paradoxical situation arises ‘beyond the Phallus’ at the same time when the separation by the signifier occurs. Lacan articulates the subject as an “effect of language”, however that does not mean he defines the subject either as a being subordinated to language or as an appendage of language. For Lacan, the enunciating subject does an active role in the world of signifier and creates the meanings by using signifier as a tool. Lacan grasped a will of “Speaking subject” not to be completely subordinated to the Symbolic, even he keeps heading for the death of the Real; he expressed it as that ‘the subject drives to death’.
In this article, I try to provide a description about the process which will elucidate how the subject in the Symbolic structure is split and liberated by “Death drive”. The final purpose for this article is to make the understanding about the concept, “Death drive” sharper. The full description will also aim an explanation about the two different functions of the signifier: one is killing and the other is producing. In addition, I expect that it could justify how human subject loses his subjectivity and acquires it back in the Symbolic structure as the “Speaking Subject”.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자크 라캉(Jacques Lacan)의 “죽음충동(Death Drive)”이라는 개념은 주체가 상징계에 직면한 순간 팔루스를 기점으로 야기되는 상반되는 두 가지의 차원을 설명한다. 라캉의 말처럼 “문자는 실재를 살해”하지만, 기표에 의한 분리가 발생하는 순간 동시에 ‘팔루스 너머’에서는 실재의 창조라는 역설이 발생한다. 라캉에게 있어서 주체는 “언어의 효과”로 표현되지만, 이는 결코 언어에 완전히 종속된 존재나 언어의 부가물로서의 주체를 일컫는 것이 아니다. 라캉이 말하는 “언술행위의 주체”는 능동적인 역할자이며, 언어를 도구로서 사용하며 의미를 창조해 나가는 존재이다. 계속해서 실재의 죽음으로 향하는 “말하는 주체”에게서 그는 “상징계”에 전적으로 종속되지 않으려는 주체성의 의지를 파악해냈다. 그리고 그것을 ‘주체가 죽음을 충동한다’고 표현해냈다.
본고에서 필자는 “상징계”라는 구조 속에 위치한 주체가 “죽음충동”을 통해 어떻게 분열되고 또 동시에 해방되는지 그 과정을 기술하고자 한다. 일련의 기술을 통해 필자가 최종적으로 목표하는 것은 “죽음충동”이라는 본고의 핵심주제어에 대한 보다 입체적이고 선명한 이해이다. 그러한 기술 과정은 살해자이면서 동시에 생산자인 기표가 어떻게 기능하는지를 설명해 줄 것이다. 그 과정은 또한 “상징계”를 필생지로 삼는 “말하는 주체”(Speaking Subject)로서 인간 주체가 그의 주체성을 상실하면서도 어떻게 다시 획득하는지 동시에 잘 드러낼 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
