      As a solution of an immoral social issue these days, the importance of personality education is being emphasized. Researchers are striving to overcome the devastation of personality at the present day through Mr. Nam Myeong who is an educator in Joseon Period. Nam Myeong(南冥) stressed the thorough introspection and practice on reality with having the crisis awareness on reality, thereby being thought to be a well-qualified person who will solve a periodic crisis that we encountered today. This study examined the image of Nam Myeong as a personality educator, thereby having figured out a correlation with the modern personality education. As a result, the following research results were drawn. Nam Myeong established a few directions of the education in order to realize personality education. Firstly, self-complacency(自得, realizing oneself), which underlined autonomy, was highlighted. Secondly, the education with the emphasis on the basics was accentuated. Thirdly, a wisdom of judging the times correctly was underscored in order to do the timely(時宜, at the very suitable time) action. This is making its sense even with the social practice, which is demanded by the modem personality education. Also, a method of personality education, which was stressed by Nam Myeong, could be confirmed to be very similar to the humanities today. Nam Myeong`s emphasis on personality education could be identified to have been indicated as Hyo(孝, filial duty) based on Yulgi(律己, making oneself upright) during the Imjinwaeran War(Japanese invasion), Chung(忠, loyalty) based on Bonggong(奉公, giving priority to a public matter), Ui(義, fidelity) based on Aemin(愛民, mind of loving the people). This study is expected to be one plan for which Nam Myeong`s personality education can solve the devastation of personality in modem society.
