‘상관적 사유’의 관점에서 본 타로의 ‘순서체계’에 관한 연구－웨이트 덱의 인물카드 1, 2, 3을 중심으로 = A Study on the Sequence System of Tarot from the Viewpoint of “Correlative Thinking”－Focusing on the character cards 1,2,3 of Waite Deck

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As a counseling tool, tarot’s “projective techniques” are used by counselors to interpret the inner realm of the client projected on the tarot image. Counselors should be fully aware of the original meaning or intention of the painting drawn on the tarot card. This is because the seriousness of the problem that the client is currently facing is shown by the gap between the picture drawn in the tarot and the picture viewed by the client. An in-depth study of i mages is e ssential to p inpoint the gap b etween t he o riginal drawings and interpretations. However, the tarot is veiled from its origin and original intention of production due to its mystical tendency. Therefore, this study aims at exploring the factors that determine the order of 3 out of the 22 Major cards of the very popular “Waite Deck.” The three cards are “The Magician,” “The High Priestess,” and “The Empress.” To carry out the study, the author first focuses on the unique characteristics of tarot, the “Synchronicity” of “divination,” and the “Correlative thinking” of the “symbol.” Next, based on the original text of the book referred to by the author of the “Waite Deck,” the symbolism of the tarot image and that of the numbers given to tarot are correlatively compared, from the perspective of the East (China) and the West. Studies have shown that the order of card numbers 1-2-3 of the character cards of the “Waite Deck” is intrinsically related to that of the Chinese mythical, cultural, and philosophical symbol of the “Yang-Yin-Yin-Yang hybridization.”
