Purpose: This study aims to analyze the shot selection and scoring patterns among para-badminton players classified as WH1 and WH2.
Method: Thirty matches (15 from each classification) from national competitions hosted by the Korea Para-Badminton Association were analyzed. Data regarding shot types, shot locations, and scoring and conceding patterns were extracted using the Dartfish program. Descriptive analyses and the Mann–Whitney U test were performed to identify differences between the two classification (WH1 vs. WH2).
Results: The most commonly used shot was the clear, with WH2 players using the drop shot more frequently than WH1 players. WH1 players scored more points from the right and left sides of the mid-zone, whereas WH2 players scored more points from the center and left sides of the front zone. WH1 players scored more points from clears but conceded more points from drives and clears. Conversely, WH2 players conceded more points from drop and lob shots. Additionally, WH1 players scored more points on the right and center of the midfield but conceded more points on the right and left sides of the midfield. WH2 players conceded more points on the right side of the backfield.
Conclusion: These findings will help players and coaches in developing effective training and match strategies.
