This is a study on the prepositional reasoning ability and achievement in computer science. A correlational research design was employed and the statistical procedures of regression analysis, correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and MANOVA for Repeated Measures were employed to analyze the data collected by the Prepositional Logic Test(PLT).
The result of the analyses showed that propositional reasoning ability was significantly related to the achievement in the computer science logic class and that some propositional operators were more strongly related than others to the achievement and that a logic class designed for computer science majors did not improve propositional reasoning ability.
To enhance the performance of students in college computer science courses, emphasis on propositional reasoning ability in high school preparation programs is suggested. Research is also recommended on college level computer science education; effective teaching methods of logic or discrete mathematics courses as well as the content itself.
