The subjects of this study were 40 children aged four or five, who were attending two kindergartens in Kangwha Inchon. They were classified into two groups, experimental and control groups, and 20 children were assigned to each group.
The experimental group listened to traditional stories and then took a part in activities using traditional stories, which utilized the methods such as mind-map, brainstorming, synetics for six weeks. The control group did only listen to traditional stories.
In order to measure young children's creativity, the same tool was used as shown in the study of Jeon Kyoung Won(l999).
The collected data were analyzed by two independent samples of the t-test.
The result of the study was that young children's creativity (fluency, flexibility, originality, and imaginative power) was higher in the experimental group than in the control group.
The result shows the fact that the creativity development activities using traditional stories have a positive effect on the creativity development of young children.
And it can be said that it is very useful to use traditional stories for developing the creativity of young children. And such a method can be utilized for the early childhood education.
