This article deals with meaning change theory as shown in Ullman`s Principles (1957). The skeleton schema of functional classification if Ullman`s Principles is affected more or less by logic-rhetorical meaning change a lot by causal semantic change due to linguistic conservatism. Several scholars classify meaning change arising from linguistic conservatism into historical causes, which is the same as Stern`s classification of content into external causes. Meaning change due to linguistic innovation can result from psychological factors. These phenomena concern problems regarding name and meaning transfer arising from the similarity and contiguity between meanings and names based on association psychology. These meaning change types give rise to many semanticists decisions regarding meaning change type and have been applied as a means of accounting for meaning change on natural languages. Ullman`s (1957) schema of classification improves further in semantics (1962) and was rearranged to include all types of change. This effort to understand lexical semantics may contribute substantially to the development and understanding of syntactical semantics and semantics of speech act.
