또래집단괴롭힘 상황에서 초등학교 아동들의 대처전략 유형에 관한 연구 = A Study on Elementary Children's Coping Strategies in Peer Victimization

The goal of the present research was to identify elementary school children's coping strategies in peer victimization. Self-report data on peer victimization experiences and coping strategies were collected on 231 children in the fifth and sixth grades of an urban elementary school. Results indicated that seven types of coping strategies in peer victimization were identified(cognitive distancing, adult support seeking, peer support seeking, negative problem solving, positive problem solving, internalizing, externalizing). Gender differences in coping strategies were examined. Girls reported using more adult and peer support seeking strategies than boys. Boys reported more frequent use of externalizing coping than girls. The relations between peer victimization experiences and coping strategies were also explored.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 또래집단괴롭힘의 스트레스 상황에서 초등학교 아동들이 사용하는 대처전략 유형을 조사하고, 성별과 피해경험의 빈도에 따른 대처전략 유형의 차이를 알아보는 것이다. 서울 근교 공립 초등학교 2개교에 재학 중인 초등학교 5, 6학년생 231명을 연구대상으로 하여 또래집단괴롭힘 피해경험의 빈도와 대처전략에 관한 자기보고식 척도 질문지를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 또래집단괴롭힘 상황에서 아동들이 사용하는 대처전략 유형은 인지적 거리두기, 성인 지지찾기, 또래 지지찾기, 부정적 문제해결, 긍정적 문제해결, 감정의 내면화, 감정의 표출화 등 크게 일곱 개로 나뉘어졌다. 아동의 대처전략 유형은 성별에 따라 뚜렷한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 여자 아동의 경우 남자 아동에 비해 사회적 지지를 구하는 성인 및 또래지지 찾기 전략을 많이 사용하는 경향을 나타냈다. 또한 여자 아동은 긍정적 문제해결 전략을 더 많이 사용하는 반면 남자 아동의 경우 부정적 문제해결 전략과 표출화 전략을 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 아동의 대처전략 유형은 또래집단괴롭힘 피해 경험의 빈도에 따라 다르게 나타났는데, 아동들은 피해 경험이 많을수록 부정적 문제해결 전략과 감정의 내면화 전략을 많이 사용하는 반면 성인 지지찾기 전략은 적게 사용하는 양상을 보였다.
