Recently, the term ‘personal branding’ has been gaining popularity everywhere. Additionally, you can easily find people doing personal branding on various social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and blogs. Personal branding literally means ‘branding yourself.’ In past societies, it was customary to define oneself by settling into one group. However, in modern society, we live in a new normal era where jobs, resignations, and job changes are familiar, so even if you do not belong to any other organization, you must have your own content that can define and express yourself. This is the power to be competitive in the era we live in. Modern society is an age of images, and the importance of image making, which imprints one's image according to an individual's job and role on others, is rising as interest increases. In particular, visual images are recognized as a factor in attractive capital and competitiveness and are influencing many areas of modern life. For this reason, unlike in the past, the lifestyles of all generations are increasingly focusing on individual ego within organizations. Since the individual characteristics of individuals come together to form the image of an organization member, research on individual image making is very necessary in terms of personal marketing. Due to the resulting social and cultural changes, channels are often run by non-experts due to the nature of one-person media. As such, we continue to talk about the importance of so-called self-branding, which involves branding oneself according to personal preferences in terms of content completeness and platform and channel operation management. Although it is being discussed, research related to this is lacking. In addition, we would like to survey currently active personal branding operators to determine which areas they are more interested in depending on gender, age, and occupation. In addition, we would like to find out how key self-evaluation factors affect image making and how internal self, external self, and social self affect beauty management behavior. Accordingly, in this study, based on personal tendencies as the source, Core Self-Evaluation, which is the fundamental and final conclusion that occurs in people's subconscious, is divided into self-esteem, generalized self-efficacy, internal control, and emotional stability. Image making was divided into internal image, external image, and social image, and beauty management behavior was divided into hair, makeup, skin, and nail management behavior and research was conducted.
The results are summarized according to the research purpose as follows.
First, as a result of the factor analysis of core self-evaluation in exploratory factor analysis, four subfactors were derived: ‘self-esteem’, ‘generalized self-efficacy’, ‘internal control’, and ‘emotional stability. As a result of the sub-dimensional factor analysis of internal image, external image, and social image, which are the sub-elements of image making, mental image making was derived as two sub-factors of 'positive thinking' and 'self-orientation management', and physical image making was derived as 'fashion management'. ', 'Cosmetic plastic surgery management', 'appearance management', and 'body shape management' were derived as four sub-factors, and social image making was derived as three sub-factors of 'manners management', 'facial expression management', and 'speech style'. It has been done.
Second, as a result of analyzing the impact of core self-evaluation on image making, the self-evaluative personal characteristic that is the most fundamental source of self-esteem, generalized self-efficacy, internal control, and emotional stability of personal branding operators was confirmed to be self-esteem. had the greatest influence on mental, physical, and social image making.
Third, as a result of the analysis of the impact of core self-evaluation on beauty management behavior, the model estimated as a result of analysis of variance was significant for hair management behavior (F=4.358, p<.01). Self-efficacy in core self-evaluation (=.224, p<.01) and internal control (=-.159, p<.05) were found to have a significant influence on hair care behavior, with self-efficacy in core self-evaluation Efficacy (=.187, p<.05) was found to have a significant influence on makeup and skin care behavior. In addition, self-esteem in core self-evaluation (=.113, p<.05) was found to have a significant influence on nail care behavior. Therefore, it can be seen that the higher the self-esteem in core self-evaluation, the higher the nail care behavior.
Fourth, as a result of examining the mediating effect of internal image in the relationship between core self-evaluation and beauty management behavior, self-esteem (=.134, p<.01) and self-efficacy (=.164, p<.001) of core self-evaluation ), internal control (=.091, p<.05) was found to have a significant influence on internal image, which is a mediating variable, and the influence on hair care behavior was internal image (=.610, p<.001), The influence decreased in self-efficacy (=.149, p<.05) and internal control (=-.070), showing partial and full mediation effects, respectively. In addition, as a result of adding internal image, a mediating variable, to the independent variable, the influence on makeup management behavior decreased in internal image (=.502, p<.001) and self-efficacy (=.090), resulting in a full mediation effect. appeared. There was no mediation effect in skin care behavior and nail care behavior.
Fifth, as a result of examining the mediating effect of external image in the relationship between core self-evaluation and beauty management behavior, self-esteem (=.134, p<.01) and self-efficacy (=.164, p<.001) of core self-evaluation ), internal control (=.091, p<.05) was found to have a significant influence on external image, which is a mediating variable, and the influence on hair care behavior was external image (=.835, p<.001). The influence decreased in self-efficacy (=.089), showing a full mediation effect. In addition, as a result of adding external image, a mediating variable, to the independent variable, the influence on makeup management behavior decreased in internal image (=.792, p<.001) and self-efficacy (=.021), resulting in a full mediation effect. appeared.
Sixth, as a result of examining the mediating effect of social image in the relationship between core self-evaluation and beauty management behavior, self-esteem (=.110, p<.01) and self-efficacy (=.130, p<.001) of core self-evaluation ) was found to have a significant influence on social image, which is a mediating variable, with hair care behavior partially mediating and makeup management behavior having an influence on internal image (=.571, p<.001) and self-efficacy (=.073). This decreased, resulting in a fully mediated effect, and the influence on skin care behavior decreased in social image (=.553, p<.001) and self-efficacy (=.093), resulting in a fully mediated effect.
Therefore, this study identifies the content trends preferred by personal branding operators currently using personal social media (SNS) and investigates the impact of key self-evaluation factors on image making, thereby examining the inner mental aspects and image making practice. The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavioral aspects of and its relationship to beauty management behavior. Furthermore, this study is expected to provide important research data for understanding the behavior of personal branding operators.
