사물론으로 본 바늘 제문의 주제 연구 = A Thematic Study of the “Needle Eulogies” from a New Materialist Perspective

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 <조침문>과 <바날졔문이라>를 바늘 제문으로 칭하고, 바늘 제문에 드러난 여성과 바늘의 관계를 사물론의 관점에서 분석한 것이다. <조침문>의 주제는 일찍부터 남편을 여읜 여인의 서러움이나 한으로 정리되었다. 그러나 바늘의 역할에 주목하였을 때 해당 주제는 재고의 여지가 있다. 여성은 바늘의 부러짐을 통해 준-객체인 바늘을 재인식하고, 바늘에 퇴적된 기억과 감정을 자유롭게 서술하였으며, 바느질 행위에서 바늘의 역할을 강조하면서 여성과 바늘이 구성했던 공-산의 관계망이 얼마나 탁월했는지를 서술한다.
이는 바늘과 여성이 하나의 다종 관계망을 이루고 있음을 보여주며, 사물의 관점에서 바늘 제문의 주제는 여성과 바늘이 구성하였던 다종 관계망의 상실을 애도하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 다종 관계망의 상실은 일차적으로 바늘의 상실을 애도하는 것이며, 다종 관계망을 통해 형성되었던 여성의 정체성과 여성과 바늘의 함께 만들기의 과정, 즉 공-산이 더 이상 진행될 수 없다는 사실을 애도하는 것이다. 나아가 여성의 제문 쓰기는 공-산의 과정을 기억하고 기념하는 것으로 여성을 둘러싼 세계가 다종 관계망에 둘러싸여 있음을 상기시키는 작업이 된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper refers to <Jochimmnun(弔針文)> and <Banaljemunira> as “needle eulogies” and analyzes the symbiotic relations between woman and needle revealed in these texts through the lens of new materialisms. Previous studies have argued that the theme of <Jochimmnun> is the sorrow of a woman who has lost her husband. However, when attention is directed to the needle, this theme invites reconsideration.
When the works are analyzed with a focus on the needle, three distinctive features can be identified in the eulogies. First, through the breaking of the needle, the woman re-recognizes the needle as a quasi-object. Second, she narrates her own memories and experiences associated with the needle, interweaving them with her sorrowful emotions. Third, by emphasizing the needle’s role in sewing, she describes how exceptional the sympoiesis once formed between the woman and the needle was.
This reveals that the woman and the needle constitute a multi-species network. From the perspective of objects, the theme of the needle eulogies is the mourning of the loss of the multi-species network once formed by the woman and the needle. The loss of the network is, primarily, a mourning of the needle’s absence; it also mourns the fact that the woman’s identity—formed through the network—and the process of co-making with the needle, that is, sympoiesis, can no longer continue. Furthermore, the woman’s act of writing the eulogy becomes a practice of remembering and commemorating the process of sympoiesis, reminding us that the woman’s world is enmeshed within a web of multi-species relations.
