Since the emergence of cultural contents in the 1990s, Korea has established the Korea Creative Content Agency and carried out a “Digitalization of Cultural Archetype”, and policy moves have begun to excavate cultural contents. As research on cultural content gradually progressed, and the concept and scope of cultural content changed, cultural content became an inseparable part of daily life. In addition, due to changes in the social environment and technology, the implementation methods of cultural content continue to diversify and expand.
Traditional culture is a cultural archetype that becomes the creative material of these cultural contents. In cultural contents research and various projects, traditional culture was noted as the cultural archetype of cultural contents. Traditional culture is an important part of the cultural archetype of cultural contents, and cultural contents is created in various forms and contents based on traditional culture. In particular, as cultural contents is a term that emerged with the spread of the Korean Wave, various projects of cultural contents in the early days focused on traditional culture.
Traditional culture is a tangible and intangible product that has been transmitted for a long time in the community, and it forms our identity and life and is an important part that sometimes distinguishes us from others, so we must preserve and transmit this traditional culture. The most important part of transmission traditional culture is that people living in this era should have the opportunity to experience and come into contact with it. The reality is that some parts of traditional culture are separated from everyday life and are gradually disappearing. Therefore, it is necessary to put traditional culture into daily life so that people can come in contact with it, and at this time, cultural contents can play such a role.
Due to the expansion of transmission, excavation, and utilization of traditional culture, various utilization sites have appeared in Korea for cultural heritage, such as regional festivals, Royal Culture Festival, Saengsaeng Cultural Properties, and Cultural Heritage Night. In addition, the number of theme parks in Korea is increasing recently through the opening of new theme parks based on history and culture or the expansion of existing tourist attractions.
However, although numerous festivals across the country name local traditional culture and specialties, there are limitations in properly promoting their value. Representative problems include overly biased tourism, similarities due to similar festivals, internal stability in a hurry to show, and lack of expertise due to a serious lack of professional manpower. The Korean Folk Village provides traditional cultural contents that are differentiated from other places in every season, solar term, and various holidays, focusing on traditional culture.
Therefore, this thesis analyzed the background, transition process, and status of traditional cultural contents over the past decade, and suggested ways to excavate and increase the use of traditional cultural contents in the Korean Folk Village in the future.
