The purposes of this study were to make raise educational interests about autistic children and to investigate of their ability of seriation.
The sample of this study consisted of 10 autistic children who attend special school and normal children who attend general kindergarden in Deagu.
The average age was each 6 years and one month.
The instruments of this study were 4 knobbed cylinders of Montessori sensory materials.
The major findings of this study are as follows:
1. In the achivement of seriation task, this study showed a remakable difference between autistic and normal children.
Precisely, normal children all mark perfect score.
But autistic children were widely distributed from zero to perfect score.
2. In the time required for task performance, autistic children required about two times than normal children.
Therefore, autistic children were behind remarkably in concentration of their attention on their task than that of normal children.
3. In the approach style of task performance, autistic children stayed on fifth or sixth stage of sensori-motor period of cognitive development in piaget's theory, because they used mainly method of concrete comparation and trial-error.
But normal children stayed on typical pre-operational period, because they used mainly method of logical thinking and concrete comparation.
4. The degree of difficulty of seriation task didn't agree with number of factor.
Precisely, block C that two factor(height and diameter) is related to volume was easiest than block A that only one factor(height) was related to volume was the most difficult.
