Evaluation is not only a means to investigate the effects of school curriculum, but a means to improve the various aspects of school curriculum. Because the development of elementary school curriculum can be done through the three-stages of planning, implementing, and production, various evaluative activities for each stage are to be conducted for the improvement of the developmental processes. For planning stage, conducting context evaluation and intrinsic evaluation, and planning evaluation were discussed; for implementing stage, conducting curriculum tryout and employing qualitative and quantitative methodology were discussed; for production stage, conducting effect evaluation and preparing evaluation report were discussed. It was also discussed that how the information obtained through these evaluative activities could be used in improving the processes of curriculum development. On the other hand, it can be pointed out that it is the peculiar aspect of elementary school curriculum that classroom becomes the final destination of curriculum development, the central part of implementation, and basic unit of evaluating the effect of the curriculum. It was discussed that how the peculiar aspect influences the process of curriculum development and what kinds of items should be included in the evaluation of elementary school curriculum. In addition, it was also discussed that because classroom is the basic unit of evaluation, the bottom-up evaluation which starts from the classroom, reaches to the grade level and finally to the school level is an appropriate method of evaluating the effects of elementary school curriculum. And how to conduct the bottom-up evaluation was also discussed.
