아동의 자기존중감과 우울의 종단적 상호관계 = The Longitudinal Reciprocal Relationship between Self-Esteem and Depression in Korean Children

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 아동을 대상으로 하여 자기존중감과 우울의 종단적 상호관계를 알아보는 것이었다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 한국청소년패널조사에서 수집된 4년간의 초등패널 자료를 사용하였다. 자기회귀 교차지연 모형분석을 적용하여 두 변인의 관계에 관한 인지적 취약성모형, 상처모형, 상호 순환적 모형의 적합성을 비교 검증하였다. 자기존중감은 긍정적 자기존중감과 부정적 자기존중감으로 구별하여 우울과의 인과적 관계를 알아보았다. 그 결과 이전 시점의 부정적 자기존중감이 이후 시점의 우울에 대하여 유의한 효과를 보였고, 이전 시점의 우울이 이후 시점의 긍정적, 부정적 자기존중감 모두에 대하여 유의한 효과를 보였다. 이는 아동의 자기존중감과 우울의 상호적 관계에서 인지적 취약성 모형, 상처모형, 상호 순환적 모형 모두를 지지하는 결과이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the validity of the vulnerability model, the scar model, and the reciprocal model for the relationship of self-esteem and depression in Korean children. This study analysed the panel data of children's self-esteem and depression that were collected from 2004 to 2007 by National Youth Policy Institute of Korea, using autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. The present study examined the relationship between positive self-esteem, negative self-esteem, and depression on the basis of research results about the self-esteem scale's factor structure in Korean Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). Results showed that children's negative self-esteem predicted subsequent depression, over and above the effect of previous depression on subsequent depression. Previous depression also predicted subsequent adolescent's positive and negative self-esteem, over and above the effect of previous self-esteem on subsequent self-esteem. Children's previous negative self-esteem rather than positive self-esteem strongly predicted subsequent depression, over and above the effect of previous depression on subsequent depression. These results support the reciprocal effects model about the relationship between self-esteem and depression. The implications of the reciprocal model about the relationship between self-esteem and depression in counseling and future research are discussed.
