□ CO2 emissions in the transportation sector is rising faster than total CO2 emissions.
○ CO2 emissions from fuel combustion worldwide increased by 1.4% annually from 2008 (29.4 billion tons) to 2015 (32.3 billion tons). During the same period, the transportation sector saw CO2 emissions rise by 2.3% annually, from 6.6 billion tons to 7.7 billion tons. In particular, CO2 emissions from all kinds of vehicles using roads climbed by 2.8% annually, from 4.8 billion tons to 5.8 billion tons.
- The proportions of global CO2 emissions for which the transportation and road sectors are responsible rose from 22.5% and 16.5% in 2008 to 24.0% and 17.9% in 2015, respectively.
○ CO2 emissions from fuel combustion in Korea grew from 557.3 million tons in 2010 to 592.8 million tons in 2015, showing a 1.2% increase annually, while CO2 emissions from the transportation sector rose from 84.7 million tons to 93.5 million tons, up 2.0% annually.
- The transportation sector’s proportion of CO2 emissions of the nation’s total CO2 emissions increased from 15.2% to 15.8%.
