2007 국내외 친환경농산물의 생산실태 및 시장변화 = 2007 Local and Global Production Status and Market Trend of Environmentally Friendly Agricultural Products

As The environmentally friendly agriculture has marked dramatic growth in Korea since the late 1990s under the active fostering policy of the government. From 2000 until 2006, the environmentally friendly farming households have shown some 78% of growth in their number. As of 2006, they amounted to 79,635 or some 6.3% of the total farming households. Along with the economic growth, the income level of the people has increased, and their interest in health is rising accordingly. The local environmentally friendly agricultural market is estimated to account for some 4% of the entire agricultural product market with 1,310 billion won in 2006. The figure is projected to rise to 1,660 billion won in 2007, 3,200 billion won in 2010, and 8,860 billion won in 2020 respectively. As of 2006, organic agricultural products are cultivated in some 31 million ha in 120 countries of the world, and the organic product and beverage distribution market is estimated to be some 38 trillion won worth. The organic agriculture has displayed the constant growth of 10% or so each year centered around advanced countries including the United States and Europe. The growth momentum of the global organic agricultural market is going to accelerate the expansion of the local production and consumption of organic products. For the market trend by country, the United States is expanding its export of organic agricultural products, and China has implemented the export-oriented green product fostering policy. These moves could pose a considerable threat to the development of the local environmentally friendly agriculture. Meanwhile, the surge in the organic product consumer population in Japan and the organic product supply shortage in European countries could be used as great opportunities to export its organic agricultural products by Korea.
