패널자료를 이용한 쌀생산비 함수 추정 = Estimation of Rice Production Function using Panel Data

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The production function of rice in Korea is estimated using panel data for Production Cost Statistics provided by Statistics Korea. A comparison of official statistics on rice production cost of Korea and Japan shows that the korean average cost, unlike the japanese one, might not enjoy economy of scale in the size classes of 2 ha and larger due to increases in capital-related cost. An econometric estimation of 2 way error component model shows that economy of scale is present but weak when the production quantity is larger than 30 thousand kilograms (which corresponds to the acreage of 6 ha) and it becomes marginal when the production quantity is over 40 thousand kilograms . Political implications are that government policies aiming to encourage the farms to increase their size should be concentrated on farms in the size classes where economy of scale is present and that the improvement of efficiency in machinery use may be important for the enhancement of cost competitiveness of korean rice production.
