<운영전(雲英傳)> 수성궁의 공간적 성격과 그 의미 = A Study of Suseong Palace in Unyeongjeon

This paper is focused on Suseong Palace in Unyeongjeon with the critical mind on the precedent studies which have regarded this palace as the stifling place.
It is plain that Suseong Palace is stifling, but Unyeong and Mr. Kim's love could be admitted only in this place. So Suseong Palace is described as being secret and dreamlike place.
Meanwhile, the precedent studies have explained that Suseong Palace means the political ambition of Anpyeongdaegun. However, I give the more attentions to the concealment and limitation of ambition than to the expression of ambition. He selected court ladies with literary attainments and made them the great writers of the day like his father the King Sejong or his brother the King Munjong. But this act itself means that his ambition couldn't be realized. Even though he wasn't satisfied with this situation and it led to the political fallen and his death.
Keeping these facts in view, it makes sense that Unyeong and Mr. Kim didn't blame Anpyeongdaegun, instead had sympathy for him. Unyeong and Mr. Kim understood that they were in the same oven in the way that they were failures in fate. And the despairing outlook on the world brought about Yuyeong's secluded life that no one could free from the real world and no defiance to the world would be allowed.
