      Since the pioneering study on JIT manufacturing system in the late of 1970s, many research papers have appeared in the literature on the philosophy and application of JIT.
      As a production strategy, JIT system works to reduce manufacturing costs and markedly improve quality by waste elimination and more effective use of existing company resources.
      JIT system cuts across all the managerial functions in the manufacturing field and offers numerous benefits such as ; low inventory and scrap cost better quality, faster response to design change, and enhanced productivity, and so on.
      This paper has attempted to review the stave of the art of JIT system and its literature has been categorized and issues relating to JIT highlighted.
      The major premise of this study is to ;
      (1) Classify JIT implementation literatures into conceptual studies, empirical studies, and mathematical models and/or simulation approach of JIT.
      (2) Identify and classify the implementation issues aspect of JIT.
      (3) Develop a strategic elements which are most commonly found to be critical issues to JIT implementation.
      (4) The role of culture in successful JIT implementation is proposed.
