동양사상에 나타난 예술개념에 있어 무용의 의미 = Meaning of Dance in the Oriental Ideas of Art

Under the present circumstances trying incessantly to present the objective beauties of dance, or art in a sense, through scientific methods, the comprehensive view of art as one life in the oriental thinking might be seen as old-fashioned, but in the other hand blind beliefs for Western cultures and art in the field of mental culture or art are dangerous as old-fashioned thoughts.
It's entirely depended on scholars' points of view how far the meaning of dance can be expanded or analyzed for it is not easy to classify philosophy, ethics and art in the oriental thinking.
Summarizing the meaning of dance in the oriental ideas of art analyzed in this study results as follows:
▶ In oriental thoughts, art is a revelation of merits such as goodness and beauty and an artistic behavior comes out from man's personality and mentality. In this respect, certain realization toward further steps of life to imagine another worlds from reality is the important aim of dance.
▶ Since dance is a revelation of human mentality that it can be said as the expression of man's morality, center of mentality. Therefore, it defines spirits of human being as well as affects them. In a broad sense, an impressive dance has educational, ethical values.
▶ Singing and dancing was born from the religious rituals in the primitive society not to perform physical entertainments but to express 'mental pleasure'.
▶ Dance with which spiritual interchanges are possible without language has substituted its object of spiritual interchange from ancient times to the present by being influenced by social conditions or ideologies and philosophies of the times. The fact that music happens ;in the inner world of man means the origin of dance is pleasure of human mind, and the fact that the aim of dance lies in the mental serenity means it sets its ideal on moderate expressions of feeling.
