네덜란드 장르화에 재현된 도자기 = Ceramics in Dutch Genre Painting

The majority of Dutch domestic genre painting illustrates porcelain, Delftware and Delft tiles. They are found on display on cupboard or on the chimney board. These ceramic decorations reflect an early version of the modern consumer culture. Deftware imitating Chinese blue-and-white porcelain demonstrates ceramics were offered with wide range qualities and at various prices. Dutch consumer culture demanding multiplication, diffusion, and participation was different from the that of many other countries, which strived for grandeur and exquisite refinement and hence, discriminated against certain people and places that were not wealthy. Moreover, most common images illustrating ceramic decoration in Dutch genre paintings are scenes concerning family, woman`s virtue and children. They were exemplary families and females according to the Dutch Calvinistic society. By creating an association with Calvinistic domestic virtue in painting, seventeenth-century ceramics were well suited to the Calvinistic political project and hence, stimulated viewers who wanted to create ideal homes to purchase ceramics.
