In order to determine the effect of lavender(Lavandular officinalis Chaix)oil on the skin immunity and skin injury, we examined the effect of lavender oil of IL-10 production in the UVB irradiated mice and CCD-986sk cells. In vitro experiments, Lavender oils at concentrations 0.01, 0.1 and 1% were affected to the production of IL-10 in the CCD-986 sk (2.105 cells/well) cell. When UVB-irradiatedCCD-986sk cells was treated lavender oil, the production of IL-10 was gradually reduced in a time-dependent manner. Amount of IL-10produced in control and 0.1% treated of lavender oil group were 9.03.1.43 and 7.66.0.04 pg/mg protein 6 houres after UVB-irradiation, respectively. In vivo experiments, the treated group with twice a day of lavender oil after of UVB-irradiation were reduced the production of IL-10 more than UVB-irradiated group. In light micrograph, the treated group with twice a day of lavender oil after of UVB-irradiation inhibited the proliferation of the epidermis at the 7day, 15day, and 21 day groups more than UVB-irradiated group. These results suggest that lavender oil has immune stimulating effects and reduce flammation on UVB-irradiated mice skins and cells. Therefore, lavender oil might be used as a potential resource for therapy of UVB-irradiated skin damage.
