증례 : 혈액종양 ; 정신분열병 환자에서 암치료 후 발생한 베르니케 코르사코프 뇌병증 1예 = Hamato-oncology ; Wernicke-Korsakoff encephalopathy following cancer treatment in a patient with schizophrenia

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지속적인 구토와 불균형 비경구 영양공급으로 인한 베르니케 코르사코프 뇌병증 환자가 전형적인 증상을 나타내었지만 정신병력과 암치료 병력 때문에 치료가 지연된 증례로, 이런 기왕력의 환자에게서 베르니케 뇌병증의 유발인자 어떤 것이라도 확인되면 베르니케 뇌병증을 반드시 의심하여 감별에 필요한 검사 등을 시행하고 약제를 미리 투여해 보는 것이 필요하다.

We present a case of Wernicke-Korsak off encephalopathy due to prolonged vomiting and unbalanced nutrition in a patient with schizophrenia and esophageal and gastric cancer. The patient`s psychiatric illness and cancer treatment led to either psychiatric deterioration or brain metastasis, which delayed thiamine treatment. Owing to its high mortality and morbidity, Wernicke encephalopathy should be considered in any patient with confusion, gait disturbance, and nystagmus, especially if associated with malnutrition. This is particularly important in a patient with psychiatric illness or cancer in which the clinical history and symptoms may be similar and treatment may be delayed.
