The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of life goals between college students growth mindset and happiness. The research problems for this study are as follows;
First, what is the relationship between a college students growth mindset and happines s?
Second, does the life goals have a mediating effect in the relationship between a college students growth mind set and happiness?
In order to verify the above research problems, the survey was conducted on 219 college students nationwide and 208 quest ionnaires were used for the study, except for 11 questionnaires in which the responses were unfaithful. The Scales used in this study are as follows. Nam Yoon jung(2017) revised the Subjective Happiness Scale developed by Lyubomirsky and Lepper(1999), Park Jun su(2017) revised the scale developed by Dweck(2006) to determine the degree of college students growth mindset, and a scale developed by Kasser and Ryan(2004) was translated by Choi Young mi and Song In seop(2013) to find out the life goals level of college students' lives.
For data analysis, SPSS 26.0 is used to perform descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis of key variables, and after using Process Macro developed by Hayes, verified the mediated effectiveness using bootstrapping.
The results of this study are as follows;
First, college students' growth mindset, happiness, and life goals all showed significant static correlation, and life goals showed significant static correlation with happiness. Second, the growth mindset of colle ge students was shown to have significant static effects on both happiness and life goals, and life goals were shown to have significant static effects on happiness. Third, in the relationship between a college students growth mind set and happiness, the life goals showed a partial mediating effect. This means that while the growth mindset of college students directly affects happiness, it also indirectly affects life goals as a medium.
This study has the following implications;
First, this study is meaningful because it conducted a study on the happiness of college students with the lowest happiness index in Korea. College students in Korea are stressed out by various factors and complaining of low happiness. Due to the subjectivity and undefined definitio n of happiness, there are not many objective research. It is expected that further research on more diverse variables will be conducted in the future by exploring the relationship to happiness based on psychosocial variables. Second, this study is meaningf ul because it looked at the impact of the growth mindset on the happiness of college students. Growth mindset is a part of an individual's personality and is a factor that does not change well because it is intertwined with self respect, self concept, and identity, but it has been reported that it is possible to induce a specific mindset through education. Therefore, based on this study, it is expected that it will be able to improve happiness by influencing the growth mindset of college students. Third, th is study is meaningful because it found out that the growth mindset has a positive impact on happiness by mediating life goals. It found that intrinsic goals, a subfactor of life goals, were partially mediated on this study. It is expected to improve happi ness by engaging in increasing the proportion of college students growth mindsets at the counseling site. Fourth, this study is meaningful because that the research target was selected as a college student and the research on the growth mind set was condu cted. Mindset has stable characteristics, so many prior studies were conducted on children and adolescents in the early stages of development. But in this study, growth mindset studies were conducted on college students. Based on this study, it is expect t o help through the involvement of not only elementary, middle and high school students but also college students in the field of counseling.
