      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

To initiate the research on the psychological factors of pubic health unrsing, the psychological factors which were assumed to be the prime factors in performing the work of public health nursing, a study on the personality traits-in other sense, self-concept was attempted as a exploratory one.
The Standardized Personality Dignostic Tests were administered mainly to 78 public healic nurses in Seoul city area and were compared to that of 119 nurses working at the hospitals in the same area.
For the hospitals in the same area. For the convenience of the study, it is assumed that the personality profile of public health unrses will be higher than that of clinical nurses on the scales of Dominance, Socialility, Responsibility, Reflectiveness, Conformity, Masculinity and Superiority.
Some personality traits (Dominance, Reflectiveness, Conformity, Masculinity) together with Validity Scale were significantly higher than that of female adults. However, except for the Emotional Stability and Validity Scale, statistically significant differences could not be observed on other scales between public health unrses and nurses working at hospitals, and so the assumption was discarded.
The author's interpretation-with the hypothetical implications-is that there will be on clear differences on the psychological dimensions between the jobs of public health nurses and clinical nurses and that, if the assumption could not be proved to be valid, the public health nurses might have not chosen their jobs on the basis of psychological determinants such as self-concept, anticipation for self-actualization but rather on the basis of reasons other than psychological determinants.
Some limitations in this study make the above mentioned interpretations valid only after the other supportive research results are added.
Some suggestions were made for futher study such as formulation of model of ideal nurse by studying the rolexpectations for the public health nurses, regulation of psychological qualifications, and searching for the ways to maximize self-actualization of public health nurses.
