한국 비판사회학의 자율성 문제에 관한 논의- 『글로벌 지식장과 상징폭력』을 둘러싼 논쟁을 중심으로 = Discussion on the issue of autonomy in Korean critical sociology - Focusing on the debate over the Global intellectual field and symbolic violence

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 사회학의 자율성 문제를 보다 복합적으로 이해할 수 있는 해석적 프레임을 제시함으로써 한국 비판사회학의 자율성 문제에 관한 논쟁을 재활성화하는 것이다. 자율성 문제는 한국 사회학이 외부의 대상에 종속되어 있다는 문제의식으로부터 출발한다. 대표적으로 서구의 지식체계에 대한 종속 문제와 자본과 국가 권력에 대한 종속 문제를 들 수 있다. 그동안 전자의 문제에 대한 대안으로는 주로 한국적·토착적 사회학이, 후자의 문제에 대한 대안으로는 민중적·비판적 사회학이 제시되었다. 한국 비판사회학은 앞의 두 가지 흐름에 영향을 받으며 자신의 정체성을 형성해 왔다. 한편으로 사회학자 김경만을 중심으로 한국적·토착적 사회학과 민중적·비판적 사회학, 그리고 동시대 한국 비판사회학에 대한 근본적인 비판이 제기되었다. 김경만의 『글로벌 지식장과 상징폭력』과 이를 둘러싼 논쟁은 김경만의 비판과 이를 둘러싼 비판사회학계 내·외부의 논쟁이 어떤 구도에서 전개되었는지를 잘 보여주는 사례다. 그러나 『글로벌』 논쟁은 글로벌 지식장 대 로컬 지식장, 학술장 외부의 사회적 요구에 응답 대 거부라는 배타적 구도에서 지속적이고 생산적으로 전개되지 못했다. 이 연구는 기존 논쟁의 이분법적 프레임에서 벗어나 자율성 문제를 보다 복합적으로 이해할 수 있는 해석적 프레임을 제시하고, 자율성 문제에 대한 서로 다른 주장을 상호보완적으로 이해할 방안을 제시한다. 이상의 분석으로부터 이 연구는 한국비판사회학계에 『글로벌』 논쟁이 남긴 물음들에 어떻게 응답할 것인지의 문제를 제기한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to reactivate the debate on the issue of autonomy in critical sociology in Korea by presenting an interpretive frame that can more complexly understand the issue of autonomy in sociology. The issue of autonomy begins with a sense of problem that Korean sociology is subordinated to external objects. Representatively, there are the problems of subordination to the Western knowledge system and the problems of subordination to capital and state power. Until now, Korean and indigenous sociology has been mainly suggested as an alternative to the former problem, and ‘minjung’ and critical sociology has been suggested as an alternative to the latter problem. Critical sociology in Korea has formed its own identity by being influenced by the above two trends. On the one hand, fundamental criticism of Korean and indigenous sociology, ‘minjung’ and critical sociology, and contemporary Korean critical sociology was raised, centering on sociologist Kim Kyung-man. Kim Kyung-man’s Global Intellectual Field and Symbolic Violence and the controversy surrounding it are examples of the structure in which Kim Kyung-man’s criticism and internal and external debates surrounding critical sociology developed. However, the Global debate did not develop continuously and productively in the exclusive structure of responding to and rejecting social demands outside the global knowledge field versus the local knowledge field, and the academic field. This study presents an interpretive frame that can more complexly understand the autonomy problem beyond the dichotomous frame of the existing debate, and a plan to complementarily understand different arguments on the autonomy problem. From the above analysis, this study raises the question of how to respond to the questions left by the Global debate in the critical sociology of Korea.
