가톨릭교회 미사제구의 사적 고찰과 조형성에 관한 연구 = 성작, 성반, 성합을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국가톨릭교회는 1784년 전례이후 세계적으로도 주목할 만큼 양적으로 큰 성장을 가져왔다. 신자, 성당, 교구의 수적 증가와 함께 교회적 차원에서 활발한 공동체 활동과 신학, 성서연구를 통해 한국적 가톨릭교회의 정체성을 형성하고 있으나, 교회에 대한 신앙심고취와 비신자에게 전례의 수단으로 큰 역할을 하는 교회미술의 연구에서는 소수의 작가에게만 의존하고 있는 실정으로 저조한 결과를 보이고 있다. 본 연구는 교회미술 성장의 중요성을 인지하고 한국적 카톨릭교회로의 뿌리 깊은 정착을 위한 기초 단계로 교회미술의 활성화를 위한 이론적 연구이다. 교회미술 중 미사제구인 성작, 성합, 성반을 중심으로 역사적 배경에 의한 조형성과 갖추어야 할 품격에 관한 규정 및 기능성을 이론적 고찰하여 기초학문의 초석을 마련하여 우리의 감성이 깃든 미사제구의 개발을 제안함으로 한국적 가톨릭교회로의 발전에 기여하고자 하는 것에 목적이 있다. 본고에서는 교회초기부터 함께 공존해온 교회미술은 당시의 미술사조와 관습, 생활과 깊이 관련되게 발전하였고, 또한 교회미술의 성장과 함께 교회도 함께 성장하였으며, 교회미술 중 미사제구에서 가장 중요하게 사용되는 성작, 성합, 성반은 시대적 흐름에 따른기능 및 의미의 변화와 함께 당시의 미술사조에 의한조형적 변화도 함께 가져왔음을 확인하였다. 따라서교회미술의 발전은 교회의 성장과 상호관계를 지니고있으며, 교회미술의 심도있고 다양한 창작을 일으키는 원동력은 학문의 연구가 매개체가 됨을 알 수 있었다. 연구방법은 ‘한국가톨릭대사전’, ‘제2차 바티칸공의회 전례헌장’, ‘미사경본 지침’을 근거로 하여, 단행본과 논문, 인터넷을 통한 해외의 자료, 사전, 단행본, 각종 보고서와 보도자료 등의 분석을 통하여 진행되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Catholic Church has dramatically grown inKorea in terms of its quantity since 1784. Catholicbelievers, churches and parishes greatly increased intheir numbers, thereby facilitating church communityactivities and theology/bible studies. The quantitativegrowth has contributed to forming the identity ofKorean Catholic church. Researches on the Church Art, however, fail to achieve corresponding developmentsdespite their importance of reinforcing believers` faithand preaching non-believers. It is because researcheson the Church Art have heavily depended on a fewartists. The purpose of the study is to understand theimportance of the growth in the Church Art, and toactivate the Church Art as a catalyst for the CatholicChurch to be firmly rooted in Korea. The studytheoretically explores on the formativeness of chalice, ciborium and paten based on their historicalbackgrounds, regulations imposed on them to keepdignity as holy ritual utensils, and their functionalities. This will lay the foundation to conduct further studieson them, as well as suggesting the creation ofKorean-style ritual utensils, thereby ultimatelycontributing to the development of the Catholic Churchin Korea. The Church Art has been developed reflecting theart trend, custom and lifestyles of the times since thevery early stage of the Church. Likewise, the Churchhas also grown in alignment with the Church Art. Particularly, chalice, ciborium and paten, which deemedto be the most important ritual utensils in the CatholicChurch, have changed in terms of function and meaningover time. In addition, their formativeness also changedin accordance with the art trend of the times. Thus, itcan be said that the development of the Church Art isclosely aligned to the growth of the Church. Furthermore, driving forces to create various types ofthe Church Art can be a good subject to be studied. The study was conducted referring to the KoreaCatholic Encyclopedia, Sacrosanctum Concilium of theSecond Vatican Council, Roman Missal guide, as wellas analyzing publications, theses, materials posted onthe internet, dictionary, reports and press releases.
