조손가족의 삶：쟁점과 지원방안 = Life with Grandparents as Parents：Issues and Policy Implications

Grandparents have been returning to the role of parents in ever-increasing numbers in Korea for the last two decades. Whatever the reasons for these grandparent- raising-grandchildren families, both parties of such families face multiple challenges. This study aimed at the better understanding of the grandparent-headed families by examining the everyday challenges of both generations and their existing support sources. Custodial grandparents often found themselves isolated from sources of support as they faced unique emotional, physical, and financial challenges on a daily basis. Grandchildren under their grandparents’ care were more likely to experience cognitive, emotional, and physical challenges. The lack of support programs and community resources calls for special efforts to respond to the complicated needs of these families, including efforts for family reunification. Lastly, a coordinated service delivery system that promotes strong and stable families was discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 조손가족 내 조부모와 손자녀 각 세대별로 삶의 특성을 알아보고 지속적으로 증가하고 있는 조손가족 지원 방안 모색을 목적으로 하고 있다. 먼저 최근 자료들과 연구 동향 등을 통해 조손가족의 개념과 유형, 발생원인, 변화추이를 알아보고, 생활실태를 통해 1세대인 조부모와 3세대인 손자녀의 삶을 이해하고자 하였다. 또한 간과되고 있는 2세대와의 가족 재결합에 대한 희망과 좌절을 다루어보았다. 이렇게 살펴본 조손가족의 생활모습을 통해 현행 조손가족의 지원과 쟁점 사항을 고찰하고, 마지막으로 조손가족에 대한 효과적인 지원 방향으로 조손가족의 법적지원 근거 확보, 특성에 맞는 맞춤형서비스 개발, 지역사회자원 네트워킹을 통한 통합적 사례관리 강화, 가족재결합 서비스 제공을 제언하였다.
