En route to the 21th century of longevity the continuation of higher education into life-long education depends on the efforts of the professional colleges in crating artists of high calibur and those who can be charged with instructing social dance in life-long education thus contributing to the popularization of dance. The education system of Korea presently focuses on performing art therefore such changes in the field signifies major reforms and openess.
And concerning the 8 graduate courses for dance there is an obvions need for division in curriculum following the example of Japanese universities and the Ochanomiz school into dance education dance theory and graduate courses for performers.
Recently at WonKwang university a course on dance theory has been introduced in the liberal arts curriculum. The students comprising the demand for such a course is 80-90% male, from such majors as medicine, economics and engineering. This demand exemplifies the heightened interest in dance culture. The fact is that, by introducing dance courses to the liberal arts curriculum, the field of dance itself will find the shortest path leading to development, owing to the popularization caused by greater supply on campuses. Considering this fact, the dance education system needs to reform it's attitude and allow for the masses to also enjoy dance.
From an athletics point of view, the greater distribution of Aerobics and Recreation, into Social Physical Education signifies the need to re-establish the dance education concept into social dance targeting the life-long education era. Specifically the approach should broaden from knowledge and the role of dance, to the humanistic aspect of learning attitudes, in order to supply, not simply an education culture but a life-long education of practice and discovery.
