The education of fiction entails identifying conversational relationships of literary events through the whole communication process involving conversations, and understanding the human life through such efforts. In order to understand the human life, one must recognize conversational relationships, and undergo the process of communication through conversations in order to shed light on this subject matter.
The purpose of this study is to identify a specific study plan for open communication structure relating to conversation-centered approach, which is closer to the essence of fiction, considering that the spirit behind “Revised Educational Curriculum,” where the education for the Korean language aims for alignment between different subject matters as well as integrated education.
The details of this study can be summarized as follows:
In Chapter 1, the genre characteristics of fiction education are confirmed as a means of literary education, and various directions as well as problems for fiction education are discussed. Many researchers emphasize student-centeredness as well as reaction-orientation, and present the directions for students and study centered around student activities.
In Chapter 2, the relationship between open communication stressing student conversation activities and fiction is discussed. In the 7th round and revised educational curriculum, the goal of fiction education is an executable point, which is to improve the literary capacity of students. Accordingly, the content structure of literary areas as well as accomplishment level of fiction education by grade are reviewed. Further, among the several methods that students can employ to improve their literary capacities in fiction education, the method of “Discussion and Debate Teaching” is applied in order to devise a fiction teaching/ studying model centered around open communication.
In Chapter 3, the fiction studying/ teaching model centered around open communications is designed in specifics. First off, previously existing conversation-centered literary teaching/ studying model as well as discussion/ debate model are reviewed to arrive at a studying/ teaching model for fiction lessons. Teaching/ studying model centered on open communication progresses by stage, and consists of “internal conversations,” “external conversations,” and “internal conversations.” Lesson process and strategy by stage have been designed so that open communication regarding fictions can actively take place between students. In the first “internal conversation” stage, the “Mandarat” technique that can draw out a variety of thoughts as well as “Character’s emotional table” that can identify internal/ external conversations for fiction have been applied. In the subsequent “external conversation” stage, the structures of “Pair Discussion” and “Classroom discussion” have been used so that diverse opinions can be exchanged without losing logical persuasiveness. In the final “internal conversation” stage, the strategy calls for “writing thesis based on reading,” which is a process to internalize the open thoughts of students.
In Chapter 4, <The Lucky Day> by Jin-gun Hyun, a short story which represents its characteristics as a fiction very well, is selected to apply the model. Considering that there are limitations in including most novel’s original texts, a piece of work whose entire text can be included that also expresses the psychology of characters as well as periodic circumstances has been selected in our application.
In Chapter 5, the designed teaching/ studying model centered around open communication is applied to an actual product, consisting of a total of 6 stages, to prepare a lesson plan as well as detailed student activity paper. The lesson is planned as a cooperative study model by small groups to bring out interest in students. Small group cooperative study models reduce the burden placed on individuals while stressing the thought process activities through cooperation.
Through teaching/ studying centered on open communications, the teachers must focus on the process of activity rather than the outcome, and pay attention in order to identify lesson strategies to expand students’ thought processes. Activities by stage in the open communication structure are highly meaningful in that a lesson plan that integrates previous teaching/ studying models to apply them appropriately and can actually be implemented, while drawing out interest from students, has been identified.
